Two Popular Dental Myths

There are a number of myths surrounding the teeth and caring for it. These myths are borne from the lack of knowledge on the subject at hand and this can never be something to be proud of. While we are on the topic of teeth, let us recall some of the famous misconceptions about the human teeth.

One example deals with the whiteness and its association to cleanliness. Does it mean that if you have white teeth they are spotlessly clean? It is not necessarily true. Our teeth are covered by enamel, which may be transparent or opaquely white. Underneath the enamel, there is the yellow dentine. So if you have transparent enamel, the yellowness of your teeth is probably your dentine showing up. Another myth deals with teeth falling off during old age, which is not entirely accurate. If you take care of your teeth early on, you will most probably be able to have them with you for your entire life. It is only damaged tooth or weak gums that cause teeth to fall off.
